Day Surgery in Gynaecology: A joint BADS/HCUK Conference

19 Nov 2020

Thursday 19th November 2020, Virtual Conference

A joint BADS & Healthcare Conferences UK Conference
Day Surgery in Gynaecology
Thursday 19th November 2020, Virtual Conference

Since the COVID-19 pandemic the NHS has described and "emergency in elective care" with waiting lists escalating and surgical bed availability greatly diminished. Never has it been more important to deliver high quality efficient surgical pathways which maximise productivity and minimise length of stay in order to tackle the escalating waiting lists and to reduce the impact on the valuable and vanishingly rare resource of elective surgical beds. HCUK and BADS are collaborating to deliver a series of one day virtual conferences aimed at improving day surgery pathways across a range of surgical specialties including Gynaecology.

Gynaecology as a specialty has long been a front runner in reducing length of stay. However, there are only a few trusts nationally who routinely undertake laparoscopic hysterectomies and vaginal repairs on a day case basis. Chaired by
Mary Stocker,  Consultant Anaesthetist Torbay & South Devon NHS Foundaiton Trust and Past President of the British Association of Day Surgery, this conference will hear from the teams at these trusts and learn how they implemented their day case pathways, the key to their success and how any obstacles were overcome. They will share the following:

  • Key components of a Day Surgery pathway
  • Patient selection for Day Surgery
  • How to develop a Day Surgical Gynaecological Service
  • Managing complex patients on a day case basis
  • How to move aspects of your service into an outpatient setting
  • Managing emergency patients through an ambulatory pathway
